Get Your Hands on Authentic Grateful Dead Signed Memorabilia
Considered as "the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world", American rock band the Grateful Dead is known for their artistically unique and eclectic music. The Palo Alto band’s signature music intermingles elements and genres of rock and roll, jazz, folk, country, blues, psychedelic rock, bluegrass, and avante-garde, as well as visual and literary traditions, to produce a truly original musical experience in every song.
One thing that they’re well-known for among fans is that they never play songs exactly the same way. By showing a new way of creating and performing music, the Grateful Dead has become one of the most renowned, imperishable, and influential bands in the history of music. Not to mention, they have become icons in the global counterculture scene. This prominence and influence in the music industry has gained the band a loyal fanbase known as “Deadheads”, many of whom have also become influential artists.
The band is well-known for their live performances. Unlike other touring bands of the time, they didn't rehearse a standard set for their live shows. Instead of playing rehearsed sets with only minor changes, the band would draw material from an active list of more than a hundred songs. They would then improvise or "work off the tops of (their) heads" to give audiences something different each time they played.
Although active since 1965, the Grateful Dead only achieved commercial success in 1970 with their albums Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. These two albums showcased their laid-back acoustic musicianship featuring rootsy, eclectic stylings, which fans really took a liking to.
The Grateful Dead were very keen on touring and creating a sense of community, making them one of the most legendary rock bands ever. In 1994, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were also ranked by Rolling Stone as number 55 in the list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004. And in 2007, they received a Grammy lifetime Achievement Award. When we talk of numbers, the Grateful Dead has performed 36,086 songs at 2,317 concerts and in 298 cities over a 30 year period.
