Get Your Hands on Signed Green Day Music Memorabilia
Formed in 1987, Green Day is an American rock band composed of Billie Joe Armstrong , Mike Dirnt , and Tre Cool who replaced member John Kiffmeyer. The band is part of the 80s to 90s punk rock scene, and their sound is often compared to other great bands like the Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, and The Dickies. As the primary songwriter, Armstrong mentions Husker Du, The Kinks, The Who, and Cheap Trick as their musical influences.
Armstrong and Dirnt have been friends since their teenage years. In fact, they were both 15 when they started forming the band Sweet Children. After a year, they invited fellow musician Kiffmeyer to join their group. However, in 1989, the band was forced to drop the name Sweet Children, as there was already a band with a similar name. They instead adopted the name Green Day due to the members’ fondness of using cannabis. The group recorded their debut album, 39/Smooth and went on a nationwide tour.
In 1990, Kiffmeyer left the band to pursue his studies and Tre Cool became the band’s permanent drummer. The newly formed trio played on a number of shows overseas and released their second album, Kerplunk, which became an underground hit.
Finally in 1994, the band released their first commercially successful album, Dookie. The songs “Basketcase”, “Longview”, and “When I Come Around” enjoyed extensive play time on MTV, which helped them reach the number one position on the Modern Rock Track chart. The album later won the Grammy Award for the Best Alternative Album, while Green Day was nominated for nine MTV Music Awards including Video of the Year.
This would be the beginning of Green Day’s steady rise to fame, becoming genre icons for a generation of people growing up into the 21st century. In 2004, Green Day found a younger audience with the release of their rock opera album, American Idiot. This is further cemented in 2009 as they released “21st Century Breakdown”.
The demand for signed Green Day albums and memorabilia rose as they (and Armstrong, in particular) rose to idol status. They became the poster boys for famous scenes where throngs of screaming young people would pack stadiums for their concerts, turning them to legitimate, recognizable names in the rock scene.
To date, the band has won five Grammy Awards including the Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for both American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, the Best Musical Show Album for the “American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording”, and Record of the Year for the song “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”.
The Broadway debut cemented Green Day’s name as icons of the rock genre. Autographed Green Day memorabilia from their American Idiot Broadway and Boulevard of Broken Dreams eras are considered particularly desirable by Green Day fans. These eras represented two of the big heights of Green Day’s fame.
